Getting a Master in FinTech from a French University

Over the past weeks we have looked at various aspects related to the Master in FinTech program which is going to be launched by the University of Rennes1 in Rennes in September 2020.  We also had the opportunity to go into the syllabus, the requirements and all there is to know about this MA programme.

In today’s article we are going to focus on another aspect, which is a very important aspect especially for the student who is thinking about leaving his or her home for a couple of years to go and study in a different country and city. In fact today we are going to focus on the city of Rennes.

Rennes

Rennes is considered to be a metropolitan city, in fact, it is the 10th largest city in France with over 720,000 inhabitants. It is also very significant because it is considered to be a student city since it has a student population that goes above 66,000. In fact, the Rennes campus is one of the largest university campuses in the whole of France.

Living in Rennes

In 2018, L'Express labeled Rennes as"the most liveable city in France", and rightly so. Average temperatures are in the positives all year round, and the city boasts around 1,800 hours of pure sunshine every year.

Another interesting thing to point out is that Rennes is classified as a city of art and history, hence making it a likeable place to live in by students because it gives them a lot to do and a lot of places to explore.

Economic Activities in Rennes

An aspect which is of extreme importance, also because of the nature and subject of our MA programme, is the economic activity in Rennes. In fact, Rennes is the 2nd concentration of digital and ITC companies in France (after Paris) with very famous brand names and startups like Google, Orange S.A., Ericsson, STmicroelectronics, Delta Dore, Canon, Artefacto, Mitsubishi Electric R&D Europe, Digitaleo, and Airbus Cybersecurity among others. Rennes was one of the first cities in France that received the French Tech label back in November 2014. Rennes also hosts the 3rd public research potential in digital and ITC sectors in France, with 3,000 people working in 10 laboratories, such as IRISA, IETR, IRMAR, DGA-MI (cyberdefense), and SATIE.

Art and Culture

Rennes is also considered to be one of the most festive cities in France, mainly because there is always something going on in the arts and culture scene.
